INFORMATION & COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY

Information Technology is well established as part of the curriculum at Church High School.  The department is based in the main school building and has two rooms each with a network of Pentium PCs.  The use of industry standard software is encouraged.

I.T. as a separate subject

At Key Stage 3, I.T. is a compulsory subject, taught for half the year in Upper 3 and Lower 4 (Years 7 and 8) and  for the full year in Upper 4 (Year 9).  At Key Stage 4 it is offered as an option for GCSE. In the Lower 6, girls who have not studied it to GCSE level take a computer literacy course.

I.T. across the curriculum

The integration of I.T. into other areas of the curriculum has made good progress. The I.T. department’s facilities are used for working with subject-specific software, research using CD-ROMs or the Internet and for general word-processing.   There is a weather station connected into one of the file servers so that weather data is logged automatically for the  Geography  department.  The  Science  and  Music  departments have their own I.T. resources also.

Internet use

We are very grateful to be part of  Newcastle University’s School’s Project which provides us with access to the Internet via JANET.

Computer Club

There is an Internet Club held one lunchtime a week for Years 7 to 9.  We have had e-mail links with schools in England and Tasmania.  If other schools would like to correspond with us please e-mail us during term-time at  [email protected]
