| Psychology is the study of mind and behaviour. Through
research, psychologists aim to explore questions about the way human beings,
and sometimes animals, behave and how they experience the world.
The aim of the AEB A-level psychology course are:

to introduce selected aspects of psychological theory and practice.

to develop critical skills of analysis, interpretation and evaluation.
-
to explore how psychology has contributed to an understanding of individual,
social and cultural diversity.

be aware of the ethical responsibilities of psychological researchers.

and an opportunity to develop skills appropriate to the implementation
of psychological research.
To give students a broad overview of the subject we study areas such as,
social psychology eg. social relationships, pro- and anti-social behaviour;
biopsychology eg. awareness, motivation, emotion and stress; abnormal behaviour
eg. psychopathology, therapeutic approaches; cognitive psychology eg. memory,
attention and performance limitations; developmental psychology eg. early
socialisation, cognitive development; perspectives eg. ethical issues,
controversies in psychology; and research methods.
The students also have to carry out two investigations as part
of their assessment. One experimental study and one non-experimental study,
the content of which may be drawn from any area of the syllabus.
Psychology is an extremely interesting subject, and students can
continue to study psychology at university. Or the knowledge gained at
A-level could be useful in many careers, eg. personnel, management, nursing
and the police force.
