In years 10 and 11 Art is offered at GCSE.  There is a choice of following two specialist areas from Painting/Drawing, Textiles and Graphics (resulting in two GCSE subjects) or following a broader course (resulting in one GCSE subject).  As in years 7 to 9, the History of Art is one integral part of the course, directly related to their practical projects. 

In the Sixth Form Art is offered as a non-examination recreational subject as well as an A-level course.  A-level students may follow a broad course experimenting with a range of media and techniques, or they may specialise in one area. In the Lower Sixth the History of Art component covers European and American art and design, with particular reference to the 19th and 20th Centuries.  In the Upper Sixth students work on a 4000 to 5000 word Personal Study on a topic of their own choice, submitted for assessment at the end of March. 

There are two Art Clubs running on different lunchtimes, one concentrating on textiles, which are open to all girls. 

We take advantage of the excellent local galleries and museums by visiting exhibitions and attending workshops.  Girls from year 10 upwards have the opportunity of visiting important exhibitions in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, etc., and there is usually one European visit each year to Paris or Amsterdam, for example.
